AFTERWORD

Chapter 44

CODA: THE BLUE ROOM

Overview

Garral is moved to a new, more comfortable holding cell and meets Carlon, an elderly interrogator who shows him an image from inside the Carryx world-palace. Carlon begins questioning Garral about his origins, seeking information about his homeworld and how images from the palace were transmitted to their side.

Summary

Garral is transferred from his previous prison to a new facility with color-coded hallways indicating different departments. He is brought into a blue-banded restricted room furnished with a sofa, chairs, and a wall screen displaying abstract patterns. An old man named Carlon enters and introduces himself as Garral's interrogator, speaking Garral's adopted language but initially too quickly. After Garral requests slower speech, Carlon obliges and offers him a drink, which Garral refuses. Carlon then displays an image on the screen showing a hallway near the human quarters in the Carryx world-palace. Garral recognizes it as the location where the humans are being held, but states it is not his homeworld. When Garral asks how they obtained the image, Carlon reveals it was transmitted via secure protocol during a recent battle and admits he does not know who sent it. Garral confirms he does not know either. Carlon then begins his formal interrogation, asking Garral to start from the beginning and tell him about the planet Anjiin, establishing that this is Garral's claimed origin world.
