4. Ophelia

Ophelia confronts her roommate Sofia, who has threatened her with a knife and demands the room for the evening. Seeking refuge in the library, Ophelia encounters members of the Mafia families attending the university—Vincenzo and his sister Belladonna—along with the antagonistic Alex. She later goes swimming in the tarn to practice for tryouts, but discovers that someone has removed her boot laces and left them tied to a branch, suggesting she was being watched.

After Sofia threatens Ophelia with a knife and orders her out of their shared room, Ophelia retreats to the library with her comfort read, The Great Gatsby. In the foyer, she is stopped by Vincenzo (Vin), the short-haired Italian she'd seen with Alex, who questions her about a conversation with the Ivanov twins. She learns that Vincenzo's father is a Mafia leader encroaching on Ivanov territory. In the library, Belladonna—Vincenzo's sister—joins her and reveals their family's criminal ties. Alex soon arrives with Vincenzo, and Ophelia attempts to ignore him despite his provocative behavior; she leaves after rejecting his advances and flirting with Vincenzo instead. She has a positive lunch with Divya and returns to her room to find Sofia with Jaden Adeoye on the desk. Ophelia retrieves a bag and leaves again. She heads to the tarn to swim in preparation for swimming trials, despite a groundskeeper's warning. While swimming, she experiences a sensation of being watched. Upon exiting the water, she discovers her boot laces have been removed and tied in bows around a nearby branch—evidence that someone was present and deliberately harassed her. She flees back toward the castle, sensing she is being followed.
