AFTERWORD

Chapter 20

Chapter 21

Overview

Carl, Donut, and Mongo infiltrate Commandant Kane's floating home in the Wasteland to find it occupied only by his young daughter Bonnie and a mysterious creature named Denise. When they discover Kane's corpse and trigger a timed boss battle, they must defeat Denise—a feral goose mother who blocks all magic and physical damage—within three minutes before the house crashes to the ground.

Summary

Carl's group enters Kane's home and finds it in disarray, with blood trails leading throughout. Bonnie, Kane's young daughter, is preparing a lemonade stand to raise money for a memorial to her dead pet pig Sausage. When Mongo and the clockwork automatons arrive, they disrupt Denise, a white goose wearing a bonnet, who is somehow keeping the house aloft. Her presence immediately strips Carl and his companions of their magical abilities and buffs. They discover Kane's corpse in the kitchen, grotesquely torn apart. Looting the body yields a letter from Ghazi, the Glass Wizard, warning Kane that bombing the temple weakens its structure and threatening to open a portal to the void if Kane doesn't cease hostilities. The goose becomes the boss encounter—a three-minute fight against the falling house. Carl realizes damage from the goose's attacks and environmental objects affect her, but not from magic or conventional weapons. After an initial battle, Bonnie finishes mixing her lemonade, which turns out to be a red herring. With seconds remaining, Carl deduces from Bonnie's cryptic gesture toward the sink that Kane was attempting to use the garbage disposal. Carl forces Denise's head into the disposal and activates it, destroying the boss. The house lands safely, and the system declares the Air Quadrant liberated.
