AFTERWORD

Chapter 5

Chapter 6

Overview

Carl and his party receive loot from defeating Grull and the mantaurs, including multiple achievement boxes and rare items. They learn about the other bubble quadrants from other crawlers, then Carl visits a house in the village to use a telescope to observe the Wasteland Castle, discovering it's a massive flying island filled with gnomish forces and weapons.

Summary

Carl, Katia, and Donut return to their personal space and open their achievement boxes from the battle with Grull. Carl receives several notable items: a Legendary Deity's Box containing Pawna's Tears (a powerful potion granting plus five to any chosen skill), an Enchanted Toe Ring of the Leprous Bandit with Sticky Feet and Super Spreader benefits, an Extinction Sigil Tattoo on his face marking him as a Wall Monitor killer, and Surefire crafting items for guided projectiles. Donut receives Astral Paw and Wall of Fire spellbooks. Katia receives skill potions and scrolls. The team discusses strategy and water-breathing items hint at upcoming aquatic content. Elle sends a message about receiving a Graupel ice spell from her Deity Box.

Curl contacts other crawlers in bubble 543. Gwendolyn Duet, a level-27 fighter in the land quadrant, reports her team faces the Sandcastle of the Mad Dune Mage with giant snakes, spiders, scorpion-creatures, and chainsaw-wielding birds. She describes four walls and mentions villages with one having a Desperado Club. She describes the coral reef around the island with sharks and jellyfish.

That evening, Carl visits a house to use a telescope. The door is answered by Skarn, a young Changeling Juvenile whose parents were killed in bombings. Skarn is being raised by Flint, a dromedarian on patrol. Using the Enchanted Gnome FarSeerer telescope on the roof, Carl observes the Wasteland Castle—an enormous floating island approximately three football fields wide, suspended by five giant magical balloons. The island is crowded with gnomish structures, weapons (ballistas, trebuchets), and various flying machines. Carl sees a gnomish patrol ship carrying an unstable fuel-air Knock-Knock bomb. Skarn explains that gnomes bombed his village long ago but don't attack Hump Town because the town harbors something the gnome leader wants to keep safe, hidden in the town hall. Skarn mentions it eats mushrooms but knows no other details.
