Chapter 11
Chapter 10
Overview
During a forest patrol with Lucien, Feyre encounters the Bogge, a deadly creature that kills by forcing mortals to look at it. After safely resisting its compulsion, she learns that Tamlin has gone to hunt the creature. Later that night, while waiting anxiously for Tamlin's return, Feyre spots a figure in the garden below her window—and realizes it is her father.
Summary
Feyre and Lucien ride through the spring woods when a supernatural cold overwhelms them. A formless, ancient creature circles them relentlessly, its voice invading Feyre's mind and commanding her to look at it. Lucien urges her to keep her eyes averted, and after intense resistance, the creature finally retreats. Lucien identifies it as the Bogge, explaining that acknowledgment through eye contact makes it real and deadly. The two continue riding and eventually banter, their tentative truce temporarily holding. At dinner, Tamlin observes Feyre's return with Lucien and questions them about their hunt. Lucien reveals the Bogge's presence near the estate; Tamlin responds with contained fury, questioning its location before departing to hunt it himself. Lucien notes that Tamlin is capable of killing the creature. Feyre spends the evening watching from her window for Tamlin's return, sharpening a hidden knife and growing increasingly anxious about his fate. Near midnight, a figure emerges in the garden below. Peering through the curtains, Feyre sees not Tamlin but a man hobbling into the light—her own father.
