Chapter 7
Chapter 6
Overview
Feyre arrives at a sprawling faerie estate after being kidnapped by a masked High Fae warrior. She meets her captor in his true form, encounters the courtier Lucien who resents her presence, and is taken to a lavish bedroom where a servant named Alis helps her bathe and dress, warning her to stay cautious and keep quiet about the death of a faerie named Andras.
Summary
Feyre is brought unconscious to a grand estate in Prythian, emerging to find herself unable to escape on horseback due to the faerie's control. She enters an opulent dining hall where her captor, a golden-haired High Fae wearing an emerald-embedded mask, reveals himself in human form. He offers her food, which she refuses out of fear of the old mortal warning that eating faerie food enslaves one to them. The High Fae—later addressed as the one in charge—mentions a loophole in the Treaty that brought him to her. A red-haired faerie named Lucien arrives, wearing a bronze fox mask that conceals a brutal scar and missing eye replaced with a golden orb. Lucien confronts Feyre about killing someone named Andras with an ash arrow, expressing anger at her presence and calling for her death or removal. The golden-haired faerie silences Lucien and insists Feyre stay, unharmed. Feyre is then led away by Alis, a masked servant woman, to a lavish bedroom where she is bathed, groomed, and offered a turquoise dress. Refusing to wear it for fear of hampering her escape plans, Feyre sits in her dressing gown until Alis returns with her torn clothes, then offers her a white shirt and dark blue tunic instead. While Alis braids her hair, she warns Feyre to keep quiet and alert, explaining that while some faeries will resent her due to Andras's death, the master's mercy should protect her if she stays obedient. Alis hints that Lucien deserves to be spoken back to before leaving.
