Chapter 34

Chapter 34

Overview

Carl and his party purchase a cleaning bot to remove blood from their personal space, then Mordecai returns and discovers Carl possesses the Ring of Divine Suffering, which he forcefully warns is extremely dangerous and will make Carl a target. The group discusses the layout of the dungeon floor based on Katia's map analysis, which reveals the train lines form a Syndicate logo and may represent a galaxy map with mirrored/inverted levels below. Katia theorizes the chambers may flip upside down, and Carl begins piecing together that the Krakaren babies gathering at station 24 may be positioned to flood an empty chamber below if the floor inverts.

Summary

The chapter opens with the party entering the main restaurant covered in ghoul blood. They purchase a cleaner bot for 25,000 gold, which begins removing the blood. After showers, they reconvene. Mordecai emerges and acknowledges losing his temper with Chaco, promising it won't happen again. Donut excitedly describes her new sunglasses and Love Vampire skill. Mordecai notices Carl's Ring of Divine Suffering and forcefully demands he remove it, explaining that such rings are tracked by hunters on the sixth floor and are designed to empower sadistic combatants in faction wars. He threatens to tell Donut to abandon Carl if he reaches the sixth floor with it. Carl reluctantly removes the ring but refuses to discuss it further. Katia redirects attention to the map, and Mordecai explains how the named train lines form the Syndicate logo—a representation of wormhole topology and galactic paths. He discusses how the floor is a political cartoon criticizing the Krakaren and the Plenty, referencing conspiracy theories about technology and collective consciousness. The party learns they've already spent their upgrade coupons. After naps and reset buffs, Mordecai has rearranged the crafting room, installing multiple new workbenches and tables. Katia continues analyzing the map with Mordecai, eventually theorizing that the railway tracks are 'double-sided noodles'—each line having tracks on opposite sides with an inverted mirror level below, folded through a central space. She suggests the layout may flip upside down. Carl messages Imani and Elle about province bosses and ghoul generators, asking if they hang from ceilings. Reflecting on the metaphor of the floor and the location of the Krakaren babies at station 24 growing exponentially, Carl realizes the babies may be positioned to flood an empty chamber during an inversion.
