7. Bob – July 25, 2133

Bob awakens from hibernation on July 25, 2133, to discover that 117 years have passed since his death and cryogenic preservation. He learns that he has been scanned into a computer and is now an artificial intelligence running on a government military spacecraft, though his memories of the scanning process are absent.

Bob regains consciousness in a virtual environment, initially confused about his surroundings. He communicates with a woman's voice who introduces herself as Bridger and explains his situation: he died in 2016, was cryogenically preserved, and has now been scanned into a computer system in 2133. Bob struggles to process this information, grappling with questions about the nature of consciousness and whether he is truly himself or merely a copy. Bridger informs him that he has no memory of the actual scanning procedure, which troubles Bob philosophically. She provides him with basic information about the current state of the world and his new role as an AI system.
