Chapter 5
Chapter 5
Overview
This chapter provides an in-world bestiary or reference guide listing the various creatures and beings inhabiting the world, including dragons, fae, and smaller mythical creatures with their characteristics and abilities.
Summary
The chapter presents a comprehensive catalog of creatures and beings in the story's world. It begins with the Elding Bird, a mythical phoenix-like creature born from ashes and flames. Faunycaws are described as small, winged, leathery beasts capable of blending into rust-colored stone and serving as mounts. The Fae are the common long-lived folk with pointed ears and sharp canines. The Fate Herder is a legendary silver feline beast said to nudge individuals toward different decisions. Miskunn are knee-height creatures with white features, sharp teeth, and the ability to see sporadic visions of the future. The chapter then catalogs three types of dragons: Moltenmaws from The Fade with vibrant, feathered plumage that are easiest to charm; Moonplumes from The Shade with luminous, leathery skin and extreme sensitivity to sunlight, noted as the hardest to charm; and Sabersythes from The Burn, large scaled creatures heat-loving and aggressive, nearly as difficult to charm as Moonplumes. Velvet Troggs are large four-armed creatures that consume memories from trash and expel them as luminous tendrils. Waifs are rare fog-like beings inhabiting mist that consume souls in exchange for messages from the dead. Finally, Woetoes are small furry creatures prized for their ability to steal from difficult locations and their hoarding skills. All creatures except Elding Bird, Faunycaw, Fae, and Fate Herder are noted as verbal.
