89. The Four

Dalinar ascends to the tower's roof and confronts the Stormfather directly, learning that the Everstorm will transform parshmen into Voidbringers and cannot be stopped. He takes the oath of the Bondsmith order, becoming the fourth Knight Radiant alongside Kaladin (Windrunner), Shallan (Lightweaver), and his son Renarin (Truthwatcher). In a separate thread, Adolin murders Sadeas in a brutal fight in the tower's corridors after the highprince threatens to undermine Dalinar's credibility and seize power.

Dalinar wakes from an unusually vivid dream of his childhood home filled with warm light, then seeks to reach the tower's roof. Upon reaching the top of Urithiru, he confronts the Stormfather, demanding answers about the visions and the Everstorm. The Stormfather reveals itself as a fragment of the Almighty—the personification of storms rather than a god—and confirms that the Everstorm will regularly circle the world, transforming parshmen into Voidbringers. It also states that the Almighty himself was destroyed by Odium. When Dalinar declares he will refound the Knights Radiant and takes the oath of the Bondsmith order ("Life before death, Strength before weakness, Journey before destination"), swearing to unite rather than divide, the Stormfather reluctantly accepts. The bond causes his Shardblade to scream and sever from him immediately. Descending to the main chamber, Dalinar finds Kaladin, Shallan, and his son Renarin. Renarin reveals he is a fourth Radiant—a Truthwatcher whose spren is named Glys—and that Stormlight healed his eyes. Kaladin learns of the Everstorm's power and decides to leave immediately for Alethkar to warn his family and the people of his hometown. Dalinar provides what Stormlight he can spare. In a parallel sequence, Adolin encounters Sadeas exploring the tower and, after Sadeas threatens to spread lies about Dalinar and seize the tower's discoveries, Adolin kills him in a brutal fight, stabbing him through the eye and into the brain. Adolin then disposes of evidence, discarding Sadeas's Shardblade and concealing his presence at the scene.
