Chapter 13

Chapter 14: Rhysand

Overview

Feyre confronts Nesta at the Wolf's Den tavern to convince her to attend the upcoming Solstice celebration. Despite Feyre's attempts to reason with her sister—including offering to pay her rent—Nesta refuses and grows hostile, rejecting the invitation and her place in Feyre's court life.

Summary

Feyre enters the Wolf's Den tavern and finds Nesta gambling with three wealthy High Fae males. Rhysand communicates with Feyre through their mental bond, noting that Nesta is winning at cards. Feyre dismisses the males and sits with Nesta to talk privately, with Rhys creating a sound barrier around them. Feyre invites Nesta to the Solstice celebration the following day, but Nesta refuses, claiming it is not their holiday and insisting on maintaining distance from Feyre's court. When Feyre mentions their father would want her to attend, Nesta becomes enraged and tells her to leave. As Feyre walks out, Nesta calls after her, mentioning her rent is due next week. Feyre offers to pay it if Nesta comes to Solstice, but Nesta does not respond. Feyre leaves the tavern feeling her sister's hostile gaze on her back as she flies home.
