Chapter 28
Teaser
Overview
Feyre oversees a children's art class at her gallery in the Rainbow, where young faeries paint their memories and process trauma from recent attacks. Rhys arrives to collect her, and the couple shares an intimate moment walking home, reflecting on their happiness together and the challenges ahead.
Summary
Feyre finishes teaching a class of children at her gallery while Rhys arrives to pick her up. The children have been painting memories as part of a therapeutic exercise. One painting particularly moves Feyre—created by a girl whose parents were killed in an attack, depicting the violent assault with two figures and winged creatures with claws and teeth. Though the girl asks Feyre to discard it, Feyre decides to keep it in a future office as a reminder of what they're working toward. Another child, disappointed about not receiving a puppy for Solstice, painted an imagined future where he and a dog live in the main house while his parents occupy a doghouse instead. Feyre mentions to Rhys that they plan to attend all the initial classes for two weeks so parents and children become familiar with them. As they walk home through the bustling Rainbow for lunch, Feyre expresses her newfound happiness and gratitude for her life and their relationship, contrasting it with her feelings from nearly a year prior. She acknowledges challenges ahead—including issues with the Illyrians, human queens, and other threats—but affirms her commitment to facing them together with Rhys. The chapter ends with an exchange of affirmations and kisses as they head toward their home.
