AFTERWORD

Chapter 65

Chapter 64

Overview

In a memory extracted by Borg, the protagonist defeats and executes his father Pah in brutal combat during a larger war. After killing Pah's dragon Grohn, he tracks the wounded Pah across the battlefield and methodically beheads him with a saw, seeking vengeance for Pah's role in the deaths of those he loved, including Elluin.

Summary

The chapter opens with the protagonist negotiating with Borg in the treehut, offering him three beads taken from Pah's ear in exchange for information. Borg agrees to taste a memory of revenge in place of the protagonist's worst experiences. The memory itself depicts the climax of a battle at Dhomm's shore. The protagonist rides Rygun, his dragon, who kills Grohn, Pah's Sabersythe. Pah, injured and unable to walk, attempts futile magical attacks using Bulder, the God of Ground, but his weakened state prevents him from mounting an effective defense. The protagonist pins Pah against a rock in the sun, confronting him about his crimes—particularly orchestrating the downfall of Elluin's family and using her as a pawn. The protagonist declares that the kingdom will be cleansed of the hierarchical bead system, that the crown will pass to Veya instead of through the Vaegor line, and that he will eventually hunt down Tyroth and Cadok. Despite Pah's taunts about weakness, the protagonist, fueled by Rygun's strength flowing through him, cuts out Pah's tongue and then slowly saws through his neck while contemplating the losses of Mah and Elluin. After Pah's death, the protagonist requests Bulder to create a clay mug, places it in Pah's severed hands in his lap, and leaves the corpse behind without the crown he refuses to wear. He then orders Rygun to feast on the body.
