The chapter opens with the protagonist escaping through tunnels as moons plummet from the sky, causing massive destruction across the plains. She witnesses Kyzari atop the mountain peak cradled by an unknown winged being, Caelis, and realizes their combined emotional power—manifesting as rippling energy—is causing the atmospheric disturbance that dislodges the remaining moons. Fighting through destructive winds and with Clode's help, she pushes toward them. Veya attempts the same approach but is repeatedly knocked back; Uno is sheltered nearby and has foreseen these events. As the protagonist nears Caelis and Kyzari, she experiences a profound psychic communion with Caelis in which he reveals his loneliness, betrayal, and consuming love for Kyzari—and implicitly grants her permission to approach. She breaks through to Kyzari, and their first genuine embrace occurs when Caelis withdraws, silencing the catastrophic clamor. Kyzari, stunned and emotional, faints in her mother's arms. The protagonist acknowledges the decades of lost time and connection between them.
