Summary
Raeve checks on Ahvi, who sleeps peacefully with a Fate Herder curled around him as protection. She moves to the main chamber where Pidra, a Fleshthread healer, tends to Kaan and Kyzari, both unconscious from wounds sustained in recent battle. After Pidra leaves, Raeve sits vigil over her companions. She holds the small folded parchment doll Nee, realizing it was meant to unite her and Kyzari. When Kaan wakes, their eyes meet with overwhelming emotion as he becomes aware that Kyzari—their daughter—is alive. Kaan relays a message from Slátra: her heart still beats with Raeve's. After coaxing Kaan back to sleep, Raeve descends into her inner consciousness, where she discovers a luminous Moonplume—Slátra—waiting in a den. Though Slátra appears lifeless at first, she awakens at Raeve's touch, revealing herself to be alive. Slátra shows Raeve a dual-colored stone containing merged memories of them both and communicates that she was never truly lost.
