Chapter 90

Overview

Veya and her companions are herded into a devastating snowstorm by a Fate Herder. Uno finds shelter in a predator's lair where Kyzari lies dying, and as the child begins to sing in an unknown language, the atmosphere itself tears apart. A god—the God of Aether—materializes from the Aether Stone's light, heals Kyzari, and reveals himself to be her true beloved, taking her into his embrace with massive silver wings as moons begin to fall from the sky.

Summary

Veya is forced by a Fate Herder into a blinding snowstorm with Kyzari, who is severely injured and dying. Despite the brutal cold and inability to locate her companions Rayne and Clode, Veya presses forward. The Fate Herder abandons them, and Uno—a small miskunn—appears with a jar of captured moonlight to guide them to shelter in a rocky outcrop that serves as a predator's lair. Veya arranges Kyzari's body on bones and removes her shackle. As the storm inexplicably ceases and moonlight floods the mountainside, Kyzari opens her eyes in what Veya believes is a final lucid moment before death. Instead, Kyzari begins singing in an incomprehensible, lyrical language. The atmosphere shudders violently; a seismic force launches Veya backward toward a cliff's edge. When Veya looks back, she witnesses streams of silver light coalescing into a striking male figure with ebony skin, silver eyes, pitch-black hair, and massive silver wings—the God of Aether. He heals Kyzari's wounds with his touch, gathers her into his embrace, and sings silently with her. Kyzari rises healed and luminous, and the two embrace with obvious devotion. Veya realizes Kyzari's heart already belonged to this Creator. As the god's wings stretch to encompass Kyzari, moons begin to fall from the sky toward the snow-covered plains below.
