Chapter 45

Carl returns from his transfer to find that Prepotente has already decimated most of the naga army while pursuing his personal vendetta against the Sultana. Prepotente's actions have created complications with the rules of Faction Wars, and the sluggalos have gone rogue chasing him. Carl adjusts his battle plans and attempts to recruit Prepotente into the Princess Posse to work within the system, then prepares to depart for the assault with his collected potions.

Carl returns from transfer to Shanty Town and immediately checks that his team is unharmed. Elle reports that Prepotente has already destroyed most of the naga standing army while pursuing revenge against the Sultana for his mother's death. Prepotente's actions triggered a rules violation complaint from the naga because he was acting without being officially part of Carl's army. The dispute led to Prepotente being placed in penalty stasis, but when released he found Carl's forces already engaged. The sluggalos became protective of Imani after Prepotente insulted her and split into two groups—some flying after him, others commandeering a cart. Carl consults Baroness Victory about the rules governing Prepotente's status. She explains that while Prepotente can work independently, Carl cannot directly coordinate with him without breaking the rules, but Prepotente could join the Princess Posse to operate legitimately. Carl reads Prepotente's furious message, which accuses him of ruining plans and endangering Prepotente's personal vendetta. Carl recognizes that Prepotente's penalty stasis actually prevented him from forcing the Sultana into hiding prematurely, which may have benefited their plan. Carl sends messages adjusting his strategy to proceed without the sluggalos, given that naga infantry appears decimated. He coordinates with Tran, Louis, Donut, Florin, Katia, and Edgar on their positions and readiness.
