Chapter 68
Justice Light
Overview
Justice Light sends away the sluggalo workers and reveals to Juice Box, leader of Team Retribution, that he knows she is a changeling with infiltration capabilities. Through a deeply personal confession about his past—killing an NPC in anger, witnessing his friend Dante's execution, and being forced to commit atrocities—Justice gains Juice Box's trust and proposes an alliance. He reveals he understands her true goal is to allow changelings to physically touch gods, and offers to teach her how to do so without dying in exchange for her commitment to Operation Ruin and ending the subterfuge between their groups.
Summary
Justice Light dismisses the sluggalos from the tunnel construction work, encouraging them to join the surface forces. He secretly retains Sick-Ass Worgo, a level 53 slug he suspects is a changeling in disguise. When Worgo transforms into Jessica and then Juice Box's human form, Justice reveals he has detected her through body temperature and hormonal analysis via his neural implants. He disarms his hidden traps and shares an extensive personal history: how he once killed an NPC in anger, causing other crawlers' deaths; how his friend Dante was executed by the AI for refusing to kill innocent ice elves; and how Justice himself was mutilated (losing his wing) for the same refusal but complied under coercion. Justice then deduces Juice Box's true strategy—that the changelings can infiltrate all major bases and are positioning themselves to touch gods rather than simply wage war. He notes the Blood Sultanate security breach and their failure to assassinate the Sultana despite capability, suggesting they were keeping their options open. Justice proposes a deal: he will teach Juice Box how to touch a god without dying, if she commits fully to Operation Ruin without sabotage. When Juice Box mentions they lost three changelings in Club Vanquisher and only one successfully touched Bast before dying, Justice seizes on this information. He then explains he has been designing a far larger plan since witnessing Carl discover the Gate of the Feral Gods—one involving not just the current war but something beyond. As he begins to detail his true trap design, Juice Box's digger, which had been positioned to attack, powers down and retreats, indicating her acceptance of his proposition.
