Chapter 14
Part Two The House of Wind
Overview
Feyre experiences a mental breakdown after Tamlin traps her inside the manor with an impenetrable shield, preventing her from leaving or training her emerging powers. Mor and Rhysand arrive to rescue her, shattering Tamlin's shield and taking her away to an unknown location.
Summary
During the first week back at the Spring Court manor, Feyre is confined to the house while Tamlin and Lucien deal with a nameless threat. Ianthe returns as her sole companion. Feyre learns her powers are manifesting uncontrollably—her nails transform into shadow claws when startled by Lucien's red hair. Lucien attempts to convince Tamlin to allow her formal training, but Tamlin refuses, fearing it will alert other High Lords to her stolen powers and make her a target for kidnapping or breeding purposes. Ianthe suggests assassinating Rhysand to prevent him from stealing Feyre, but Lucien argues against it. Tamlin violently shuts down further discussion. When Tamlin and Lucien depart to handle activity on the western sea border near Hybern, Feyre begs to accompany them, but Tamlin refuses. As he leaves, he magically shields the entire house, trapping Feyre inside—she cannot exit through doors or windows despite guards being able to move freely. Panicking and feeling imprisoned like she was Under the Mountain, Feyre's powers spiral out of control, melting her ring. Alis calls for help, and Mor arrives and carries Feyre through a cave into what appears to be the Summer Court. Rhysand meets them there, his presence causing a 'vicious growl'—revealed to be a territorial reaction. Rhysand takes Feyre from Mor and uses his darkness magic to soothe her panic and lull her to sleep.
