Chapter 7
Chapter 7
Overview
Rhysand interrupts Feyre's wedding to Tamlin by invoking their bargain, forcibly taking her to the Night Court. Upon arrival at his mountain palace, Feyre discovers her luxurious accommodations and begins to understand the bond between them, culminating in a breakfast where Rhysand reveals his week-long plans for her.
Summary
Rhysand arrives at Feyre's wedding to Tamlin and, citing their bargain, takes her from the Spring Court to the Night Court. During the journey through darkness, Feyre clings to him despite her hatred. They arrive at Rhysand's private residence atop a mountain in the Night Court, a palace with open halls, moonstone floors, and views of snowy peaks. Rhysand removes Feyre's gloves to reveal the eye tattoo he placed on her hand, confirming he heard her silent plea to be rescued from the wedding. Feyre is angry and defiant, but Rhysand insists she made a bargain and is his guest, not prisoner. He explains the court beneath the mountain—which Amarantha modeled her Under the Mountain realm after—exists but she will not be taken there. Feyre's room is luxurious, featuring an open bathtub overlooking the mountains. After examining it for danger, she removes her wedding dress and weeps in bed. The next morning, handmaidens Nuala and Cerridwen arrive to prepare her for breakfast. Feyre bathes and dresses in clothes provided by the Night Court—peach pants and a gossamer top—then follows a mental tug from Rhysand to the veranda. At breakfast, he explains the Night Court is one of three Solar Courts that follow natural day and night cycles, unlike the Seasonal Courts. Rhysand notes Feyre has lost weight and reveals he hears her thoughts through their bargain bond. He explains the bond creates a bridge between their minds with doors and shields, and that his mental powers allow him to slip through shields of others. When Feyre demands to know what he wants from her, Rhysand says: for this week, he wants her to learn how to read.
