Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Overview
Feyre is confined to the Spring Court manor while Tamlin hunts Amarantha's remaining creatures. She argues unsuccessfully to visit the nearby village to help with reconstruction efforts, then spends the day with Ianthe, the High Priestess, planning her wedding to Tamlin. That night, Tamlin returns and they make love, during which he clarifies that she will be called Lady of the Spring Court, not High Lady.
Summary
Feyre attempts to convince Tamlin to let her travel to the village of High Fae to assist with recovery efforts, but he refuses, citing ongoing dangers from Amarantha's remaining beasts and his need to focus on hunting without worrying about her safety. She learns from Lucien that naga were encountered recently. Frustrated but compliance, Feyre spends the day with Ianthe, the High Priestess and childhood friend of Tamlin's who is orchestrating the wedding. During their planning session, Ianthe discusses seating arrangements, wedding colors, and Feyre's role as the future Lady of the Spring Court. Ianthe subtly probes about Lucien, whom she has romantic interest in, and reassures Feyre about the wedding being Cauldron-blessed. That evening, after Tamlin returns from hunting, they become intimate. During their encounter, Feyre asks what title she will hold, and Tamlin informs her there is no position called High Lady—she will be Lady of the Spring Court, as consorts rather than wives of High Lords have never borne that title. The chapter ends with them continuing their intimate moment.
