Chapter 54
Chapter 52
Overview
Feyre and Rhysand crash-land in mud outside a stone house after his powers fail. Feyre, devastated and hollow, demands that Mor take her away immediately. Mor brings her to a remote, warded mountain cabin where Feyre can be alone to process what she has learned.
Summary
Rhysand and Feyre winnow out of the Cauldron's realm but crash into freezing mud outside a house where Cassian and Mor are staying. Cassian rushes to help Rhysand, but Mor notices Feyre's emotional state and immediately understands something is deeply wrong. Feyre, cold and hollow, begs Mor to take her somewhere far away. Mor winnows them to a remote log cabin high in the snow-covered mountains, warded against intrusion. During the journey, Mor learns that the Suriel revealed Rhysand is Feyre's mate. Mor explains the cabin's magical properties—it is warded so no one can enter without family permission, and Feyre's presence is allowed because of her connection to Rhysand. Inside, Mor conjures a fire, food, and hot water with magic, explaining the house will sustain itself until Feyre leaves. When Mor attempts to defend Rhysand, saying he wanted to tell Feyre and that she has never seen him happier, Feyre dismisses her concerns coldly. Feyre asks Mor not to tell Rhysand her location and to say only that she doesn't want to be found. Mor leaves after three days' notice, leaving Feyre alone in the silent cabin.
