Chapter 50
Chapter 49
Overview
Feyre encounters Lucien and sentinels from the Spring Court hunting for her in the forest. When Lucien attempts to take her back to Tamlin by force, Feyre reveals her newfound powers—Illyrian wings and shape-shifting abilities—and warns him never to return, with Rhysand appearing at her side to reinforce the threat.
Summary
Feyre is discovered by Lucien and four sentinels while alone near a stream in the forest. Lucien explains they have been searching for her for over two months after receiving a tip about her location. When he attempts to approach and winnow her away, Feyre uses her shape-shifting ability—a gift from Tamlin—to move behind the sentinels with Rhysand's aid. Rhysand appears alongside her, immediately establishing dominance over the situation. Lucien pleads with Feyre to return to the Spring Court, claiming Tamlin is sorry and that things have changed, but Feyre refuses. She confronts Lucien about his failure to help her during her confinement at the Spring Court, reminding him that he saw her suffering but chose fear and obedience to Tamlin over her welfare. Feyre then reveals her Illyrian wings, shocking Lucien into understanding the extent of her transformation. She warns him that if Tamlin sends anyone else into Night Court territory, she will hunt them down. Lucien departs with his sentinels, delivering a parting threat to Rhysand before vanishing. After they leave, Feyre's wings and talons fade as she regains composure. Rhysand comforts her, and they fly to another location to avoid further detection. Feyre reflects that her lack of emotional distress about the encounter troubles her more than the meeting itself.
