Chapter 68
Chapter 66
Overview
Feyre confronts Tamlin, who has allied with the King of Hybern and agreed to exchange her for passage through his territory to remove the wall between worlds. After Feyre breaks free from a magical constraint and discovers her mating bond with Rhysand, the King reveals he has captured her sisters as leverage to ensure her compliance.
Summary
Feyre and her companions encounter Tamlin, Lucien, the King of Hybern, and Jurian in the throne room. The King reveals his bargain with Tamlin: in exchange for Feyre, Hybern gains access to Prythian through Tamlin's territory to attack the wall. The King's ultimate objective is twofold—to kill the High Lord of Night (Rhysand) and to discover his allies, information Jurian has long sought. The King demands Rhysand break his mating bond with Feyre to return her to Tamlin as his bride. Feyre refuses Tamlin's command to come with him and, after recognizing that magical constraints do not truly hold her, breaks free of the spell binding her power. She transforms into mist and shadow, evading Tamlin's grab, and Rhysand punches him in retaliation. The King of Hybern, recognizing Feyre's mate bond with Rhysand through her transformation, reveals his knowledge with cruel amusement. Soldiers pour into the chamber as Feyre unleashes her power, only to have it suppressed again by the King's magic. He identifies her as a child of all seven courts and threatens to extract information about the Cauldron and the book. The final horror unfolds as the four remaining human queens enter, their guards dragging Feyre's bound and gagged sisters before her, establishing them as hostages to ensure her obedience.
