AFTERWORD

Chapter 67

Chapter 65

Overview

Rhysand's group confronts Jurian at the castle, but the King of Hybern has set a trap that strips them of their magic and winnowing abilities. When they attempt to escape with the Book of Leghaim, Jurian shoots Azriel with a bloodbane-coated arrow, forcing them to surrender. They are marched to the throne room where the King of Hybern reveals his co-conspirators: Lucien and Tamlin.

Summary

Cassian, Rhysand, and the others encounter Jurian descending toward them. Rhysand swiftly takes the Book from Feyre's hands as Jurian taunts them about his past suffering under Amarantha. Mor reveals the truth about Miryam—that she is alive and mated to Drakon—which enrages Jurian. When Rhysand attempts to winnow them away using the Cauldron, nothing happens. Jurian reveals he was sent as a distraction while the King of Hybern cast a spell sealing them in the castle and blocking their magic. Jurian explains that the king ensured the Book of Leghaim was returned to him, and that being trapped and conscious for five hundred years has driven Jurian to madness and service to the king. The King of Hybern appears on the stairs, describing the trap as disappointingly easy to execute. He then orders Jurian to shoot Azriel with an ash bolt coated in bloodbane that will move toward Azriel's heart if they resist. With their magic locked down and unable to winnow, Feyre and the others are forced to comply. They are marched through the castle's twisting stairways past silent courtiers and guards with dead, empty eyes, and brought to a bone-white throne room with a throne made of human bones. The King of Hybern announces he has upheld his bargain, and Lucien and Tamlin step from the shadows, revealed as his allies.
