AFTERWORD

Chapter 57

Chapter 55

Overview

Feyre spends five days alone at the cottage painting, during which she envisions a future with Rhysand in Velaris—opening an art shop, living with her friends, and building a life together. After Mor returns that evening, Feyre prepares to take action on her newfound sense of purpose and direction.

Summary

Feyre reflects on Mor's overnight visit, amused by the stick figures Mor drew on the wall. Watching Mor leave and observing the snow beginning to thaw, Feyre allows herself to imagine a vivid future: running through summer meadows, eventually returning to Velaris to open her own art shop where she could teach others who are broken like herself. She envisions daily life with her friends gathered around the dinner table, and specifically imagines Rhysand there—no longer cold or cruel, but laughing freely, supporting her dreams, and sharing quiet nights together under the stars. This vision gives her a sense of direction and purpose for the first time, transforming her view of immortality from listless and empty to something worth fighting for. Determined by this clarity, Feyre spends the next five days painting every room in the cottage while Mor supplies additional paint and food. By the fifth day, restless and tired of her own thoughts, Feyre bathes and prepares herself. That evening, Mor returns to the cottage, but when Feyre opens the door, someone other than Mor is waiting.
