AFTERWORD

Chapter 24

Chapter 23

Overview

Feyre breaks into the Weaver's house to retrieve Rhysand's mother's ring but is discovered. She escapes by setting a fire and climbing through the chimney, then crashes through the war room windows of the House of Wind with Rhysand's help. After learning the ring's significance, she demands combat training from Cassian and attempts to breach Rhysand's mental shields, accidentally viewing a traumatic memory of Ianthe attempting to seduce him a century ago.

Summary

Feyre, sent to the Weaver's house to retrieve a ring, is detected by the creature and finds herself trapped as doors and windows seal. Desperate, she lights a candle and hurls it at the woven walls—which the chapter reveals are made of human remains—to create a distraction. She escapes through the chimney but becomes stuck as the Weaver pursues her. Overcoming panic through self-discipline, Feyre uses her immortal strength to break free, throwing a brick at the Weaver's face before scrambling out onto the roof, which is covered in human hair. She flees through the trees and is retrieved by Rhysand, who winnows them directly into the House of Wind's war room, where Cassian and Amren witness her filthy, traumatized state. Feyre learns the ordeal was a test of both her tracking abilities and her capacity to master panic in high-stakes situations. She agrees to train with Cassian to develop combat skills rather than rely on escape. When Rhysand taunts her about the High Priestesses, particularly Ianthe, Feyre impulsively attempts to breach his mental shields. Rhysand allows her partial access and shares a memory from a hundred years prior: Ianthe visiting the Night Court and attempting to seduce him, escalating from flirtation to physical assault, which he violently rebuffed. The memory shows Rhysand's historical restraint despite his rage and hints at Ianthe's dangerous ambitions. The chapter ends with Feyre troubled by implications about Ianthe's behavior toward Lucien and her influence at the Spring Court.
