Chapter 15
Chapter 14
Overview
Feyre awakens in the Night Court after being rescued from Tamlin's manor, where she had been locked away. Rhysand offers her shelter and work, and when she expresses fear of isolation, he invites her to accompany him to Velaris, the City of Starlight, on the condition that she never reveal what she witnesses there. They winnow together to a townhouse in the city.
Summary
Feyre regains consciousness on a couch in the Night Court to find Rhysand watching her with barely contained rage that quickly shifts to relief. She learns that Mor was forced to rescue her alone to avoid legal complications that would have triggered war between the courts. Feyre realizes she wrapped herself in darkness while screaming, frightening servants but harming no one. Rhysand reiterates his original offer of shelter and work in exchange for her labor. Feyre reflects on the powers she has inherited from the High Lords—darkness and shape-shifting from Tamlin, wind from the Day Court, and winnowing—though she struggles to control them. She decides not to return to the Spring Court, recognizing that Tamlin's imprisonment of her represents a continuation of the trauma Amarantha inflicted. When Rhysand prepares to leave on business, Feyre impulsively asks to accompany him, and he agrees on the condition that she never speak of what she witnesses to anyone outside his court. After bathing and dressing in Night Court clothes, Feyre and Rhysand winnow to Velaris, arriving at an ornate townhouse that feels lived-in and warm—a stark contrast to the sterile formality she has known.
