Chapter 66

Carl's team flees through a collapsing room filled with molten metal and slag elementals while pursued by Grull, a god of war summoned by Corcunda's status as his worshipper. Corcunda and Dong sacrifice themselves in a final charge against the god, allowing the team to escape and win Heat Five of the race.

The Scavenger's Daughter awakens as a deity, granting four-legged creatures 2× power to their strongest attacks. Grull, a bullheaded centaur god, manifests behind the team, claiming he was accidentally summoned through Corcunda's worship. The team drives off a broken track into a massive crate-filled room and glides downward using Bubble Buddy. Grull crashes through pursuing them, and molten metal floods the room along with hundreds of slag elementals. Corcunda, freshly rejoined with his split form, realizes Grull will pursue him for failing in his faith. As they approach a bottlenecked exit, Corcunda decides to make a final stand. He gives his scarf to Dong and tells him they will charge at Grull together. Dong retrieves a massive lance he hasn't used since early in the journey and mounts Corcunda. Donut casts Big-Ass Magnet on the lance, magnetizing every screw in the vicinity. Corcunda and Dong charge directly at Grull and the elementals; the screws destroy the slag creatures as they travel toward the god. Dong's lance strikes Grull, who acknowledges it as "a good death" and vanishes back to the twelfth floor. The team escapes through the exit with fifteen seconds remaining and places fourth overall in Heat Five, with Team Sparkles winning first place.
