Chapter 123
110. Reborn
Overview
Venli swears the First Ideal of the Radiants and becomes the first listener Windrunner, revealing that the honorspren have returned and are willing to bond with singers again. Leshwi, moved by this news, turns against the Pursuer's soldiers and leads a group of Heavenly Ones and Regals in rebellion. Rlain takes charge of coordinating the escape of the wounded, the unconscious Radiants, and the rebellious singers and humans together.
Summary
Venli kneels before Leshwi and confesses she has sworn the First Ideal of the Radiants through her spren Timbre. Leshwi reacts with joy rather than anger, realizing that the honorspren have returned and forgiven the singers for past betrayals. She learns that old honorspren like her former friend Riah did not survive, but that Timbre's companions are willing to try bonding again. However, Leshwi notes her own soul is bound to someone else, preventing her from taking a spren. She enters the fighting and uses her authority to turn the Pursuer's soldiers away, with her troops joining her in combat against the rebellious forces.
Navani, in the basement, communicates with the Sibling through a new rhythm. The Sibling grants her a vision of the fighting in the atrium, where humans and singers fight together against other singers to protect fallen Radiants. She recognizes Rlain among them. When she asks the Sibling to bond with her, it refuses, saying she is not worthy.
Rlain and Dabbid arrive at the atrium to discover a civil war between singers. Leshwi and five other Heavenly Ones have sided with humans against the Pursuer's forces. After the brief conflict ends, Rlain and Dabbid begin field triage for the wounded of both sides, with help from Hesina. They discover that Teft has been killed in the fighting, his eyes burned out. Lift is unconscious in the infirmary with her legs crippled by a Shardblade and a head wound; her healing powers are not functioning.
When tensions rise between the humans and singers over whether to submit to Leshwi or escape immediately, Rlain steps forward and takes command using his authority from Bridge Four training. He convinces both groups that they must cooperate: the singers face Odium's retribution for their treason, and the humans need the singers' help to escape. Venli reveals she is infused with Voidlight and is now a Radiant. Rlain orders everyone to gather the wounded and unconscious Radiants and move toward the Oathgates on the plateau, intending to escape via the Shattered Plains before Raboniel discovers the rebellion.
As they prepare to leave, Rlain mentions needing Venli's Shardblade to work the Oathgate mechanism, but Venli admits she was lying about having a Blade—she used her powers to free Lift instead. Rlain resolves to find another solution as they depart the tower.
