Epilogue: Dirty Tricks

Fourteen months before the present timeline, Eshonai is swept into a chasm during the battle for Narak and fights for survival as a highstorm and Everstorm collide. Though she drowns, her investiture as a nascent Radiant allows her soul to persist briefly, where the Stormfather grants her a transcendent final gift before she passes into eternity.

Eshonai falls into the chasm at Narak after being defeated by a human Shardbearer. Trapped in rising water in her Shardplate, she attempts to climb out but discovers two storms converging—a highstorm and the Everstorm she had helped summon. The collision creates a massive flood that repeatedly submerges her. Fighting against both the external current and the rhythms that threaten to consume her, Eshonai asserts her will to remain herself and free, refusing to be enslaved by the corrupting influence. She uses her Blade as an anchor in the churning water, summoning it repeatedly to stay alive as the flood gradually subsides. Severely wounded and barely breathing, she collapses against the chasm wall. As her body fails, Eshonai realizes she is highly invested with Radiant power—she had begun speaking an Oath when she died—and her soul persists in a luminous place beyond death. The Stormfather appears and tells her she will fade within minutes. As she drifts waiting to pass into eternity, he offers her one final gift: he pulls her consciousness into himself and carries her across the world as the storm, showing her every landscape, creature, and person—revealing to her the infinite interconnectedness of all things through the rhythms. Exhausted after this transcendent journey, the Stormfather releases her, and Eshonai passes into the eternities, finally understanding the world in its entirety.
