Interludes

An interlude showing Navani confined in her cell after being exposed. Raboniel reveals she has been listening to all of Navani's conversations with the Sibling and confirms that Navani's attempt to save the tower only led her to give away the location of the third node. Raboniel offers Navani a choice: study Light for her or face continued imprisonment.

Navani sits anxiously in her library cell, awaiting word from her captors. When Raboniel arrives, Navani learns the full scope of her failure: the ancient Fused had been listening to all her communications with the Sibling from the start. Raboniel explains that when she touched the pillar, she recognized the Sibling was awake despite pretending to be dead, and instead of acting immediately, she listened and planted metaphorical seeds, waiting to see which would bear fruit. Navani had walked directly into this trap by extracting from the Sibling the location of the third node. Raboniel notes that the Sibling themselves were naive and bears responsibility as well. When Navani asks how Raboniel compromised the Sibling's communication, Raboniel does not answer directly, instead redirecting Navani to study Light as her new purpose. Navani also asks about Kaladin's fate. Raboniel confirms she did not kill him but wounded him severely, and reports that he was spotted fleeing the tower roughly half an hour later with an unhealed wound, suggesting the Sibling's powers are failing and he likely did not survive the storm outside. After Raboniel departs, Navani writes and burns a prayer for Kaladin's protection, then collapses under the weight of her monumental failure.
