Chapter 11
Chapter 10
Overview
Feyre confronts Brannagh and Dagdan in a forest clearing and discovers she has been poisoned with faebane to weaken her powers. After a fierce battle, she kills both Hybern royals with Lucien's assistance, then flees toward the Autumn Court with Lucien, who has decided to leave the Spring Court and accompany her as her mate.
Summary
Feyre attempts to leave the Spring Court but is intercepted by Brannagh and Dagdan, who reveal they have been poisoning her with crushed faebane mixed into her food by the priestess Ianthe. They also gave her a poisoned apple an hour earlier to completely suppress her powers. When Dagdan tries to mentally attack Lucien, Feyre shields him and realizes they intend to kill or enslave him. She fights back with her remaining strength, using fire to burn Brannagh severely. Lucien seizes the moment and beheads Brannagh with his sword. Dagdan retaliates against Lucien, but Feyre intervenes and kills him by stabbing a knife through his eye into his skull. She commands the enslaved priestess Ianthe to tell Tamlin that Feyre acted in self-defense and then fled. Lucien insists on accompanying her as her mate. As her powers fully drain, Feyre realizes her magic bond with Rhysand has vanished entirely. She and Lucien make their way to the foothills, where they discover both have been dosed with faebane. Unable to risk bringing friends to retrieve her, Feyre decides to use an ancient door (portal) to the Autumn Court as a way to eventually reach the Night Court. Lucien, revealing knowledge of escape routes, leads her to the unguarded cave entrance. Before entering, he acknowledges that the girl he once knew died Under the Mountain. Feyre steps into the portal's darkness with Lucien at her side as a distant roar echoes across the land.
