Chapter 13

Feyre and Lucien flee across a frozen lake while pursued by Eris and his brothers. When cornered, Feyre reveals her newfound powers and defeats Eris in combat, but Cassian and Azriel arrive to intervene. Feyre publicly declares herself High Lady of the Night Court and displays her mating bond, forcing Eris to retreat. The group flies to meet Mor at the border of the sacred territory before heading home.

Feyre and Lucien sprint across the frozen lake of the Winter Court as Eris and his brothers pursue them, with Eris using his fire powers to melt the ice beneath their feet while his brothers fire arrows at them. Realizing she now has ice powers from Kallias and healing abilities from the Day Court, Feyre begins using her magic to refreeze the melting lake. Eris intercepts her and brutally beats her into submission, binding her with fire as he drags her toward awaiting sentries on the shore. Cassian suddenly appears, his wings fully healed, followed by Azriel, both alive and unharmed. Cassian orders Eris to release Feyre. Using the combat training Cassian taught her, Feyre breaks free of Eris's grip by striking him, allowing Cassian to engage him in combat. Azriel shields them from the sentries' arrows while helping Lucien fight Eris's other two brothers. When Cassian's blade pierces Eris's gut, Feyre stops the fight, realizing that killing Beron's sons would be strategically unwise. She removes a glamour to reveal the markings of her new title and her mating bond, then declares herself High Lady of the Night Court to Eris and his brothers. Cassian and Azriel fly Feyre and Lucien away from the Winter Court. They land at the border of the sacred territory where Mor has been waiting, stationed there to prevent Kallias's forces from pursuing south. Mor confirms that Rhysand sensed the mating bond through their connection and is returning home. The group prepares to fly to the town house where someone is waiting.
