Chapter 60

Chapter 59

Overview

Feyre encounters Ianthe at the Suriel's location, discovering it has been captured and tortured with ash arrows as bait. Understanding the Suriel's sacrifice and silent plea, Feyre flees through the forest with Ianthe and her guards in pursuit, ultimately leading them to the Weaver's cottage.

Summary

Feyre finds herself hidden near the Suriel, which lies bleeding from ash arrows identical to those used against Rhysand. Ianthe arrives and reveals she captured the creature using methods Feyre had employed, placing a tracking spell on the robe she gave it to lure Feyre into a trap. The Suriel, suffering but aware of the danger, silently urges Feyre to escape and flee. Ianthe boasts of shields placed in her mind by the King of Hybern to prevent Feyre from harming her and threatens to take Feyre to Hybern. When a guard shoots an arrow, Feyre blocks it with a weakened air wall, realizing she lacks the strength to withstand ash arrows. She confronts Ianthe mockingly before breaking into a sprint through the forest. Though exhausted, Feyre runs swiftly, noting that the ancient forest seems to aid her passage while hindering her pursuers. She recognizes landmarks from time spent with Rhysand as she flees. After several miles of pursuit, with arrows narrowly missing her, Feyre reaches a clearing and spots a hair-thatched cottage. Calling out for help, she bursts through the already open door and enters the Weaver's cottage.
