Chapter 64

Feyre learns that Elain has been taken by Hybern's army in retaliation for Nesta stealing from the Cauldron. Determined to rescue her sister, Feyre decides to infiltrate the enemy camp disguised as the High Priestess Ianthe, with Azriel providing shadow support. She and Azriel depart under cover of night, arriving at the edge of Hybern's massive encampment.

Nesta sits devastated in Feyre's tent, having realized that the Cauldron took Elain in exchange for what Nesta stole from it. Despite Cassian and Azriel's assurances that they will retrieve Elain, Nesta insists the army is too large and well-defended to penetrate. Azriel, driven by rage, declares he will get Elain back regardless. Feyre realizes she must act and decides to walk directly into the camp. She uses her magic to assume Ianthe's form—a draining effort that nearly exhausts her remaining power—and obtains one of Azriel's Siphons from him. She trades her silver candlesticks and the Siphon to the camp blacksmith for a circlet. Azriel retrieves priestess robes from the camp priestess. When Rhys learns that the other High Lords have no solution, he helps Feyre prepare, reminding her that she is a warrior and must not linger or falter. He emphasizes that Hybern's wards prevent winnowing, so she must walk in and out before being able to jump back. Feyre arms herself with hidden weapons beneath the robe, and she and Azriel prepare to depart. Mor arrives and witnesses their departure with shock. Azriel transports Feyre via his dark magic to a hilltop overlooking Hybern's vast, firelit encampment. They have landed inside the king's concealing spells, thanks to Nesta's intelligence. Azriel fades into shadow as Feyre adjusts her disguise and begins descending toward the army.
