Chapter 61
Chapter 60
Overview
Feyre lures Ianthe and her guards into the cottage where the Weaver awaits, sacrificing them to the creature. She then finds the dying Suriel in the forest and stays with it until its death, learning it had always been guiding her toward Rhysand. Helion arrives and uses his power to cremate the Suriel's body with dignity.
Summary
Feyre uses her remaining strength to hold open the cottage door while keeping herself hidden in the shadows. When Ianthe and her two guards cross the threshold, Feyre releases the door and traps them inside with the Weaver, a starving death-god who attacks them with unholy hunger. Their screams pursue Feyre as she flees into the forest. She reaches the spot where the Suriel lies mortally wounded, its body riddled with arrows and failing. Despite Feyre's offer to heal it using her blood magic as she did for Rhysand, the Suriel refuses, insisting her magic is spent and she should not waste it. The creature reveals it knew about the tracking all along but came anyway because Feyre was kind and fought her fear. It cryptically reminds her of its earlier warning to stay with the High Lord—Rhysand—and urges her to stay with him and live to see everything righted. The Suriel never reveals its true name, only asking Feyre to leave the world better than she found it before its breath ceases. Feyre weeps over the creature's body until Helion appears, having sensed her location. Though she initially refuses to leave the Suriel, Helion convinces her it is unsafe to remain. Feyre requests his cloak to cover the Suriel's body with dignity before Helion uses his solar power to cremate it in a single blinding burst of white flame.
