AFTERWORD

Chapter 78

Chapter 77

Overview

Rhysand dies after using all his power to seal the Cauldron, leaving Feyre devastated. The High Lords collectively resurrect him by each contributing a spark of life, with Tamlin providing the final one. Rhysand awakens and reveals he rescued Amren from the Cauldron during the sealing, though she has lost her immortal powers in exchange.

Summary

Feyre screams upon feeling the rupture of her mating bond with Rhysand, who has sacrificed himself completely to stop the Cauldron. Mor and Azriel arrive, bloodied but alive. Thesan, High Lord of the Dawn, attempts to assess Rhysand's body but shakes his head in defeat. Tarquin's apology shatters Feyre as she realizes the Suriel's warning to "stay with the High Lord" was conditional on his survival. Feyre demands the other High Lords resurrect Rhysand as they did for her. Helion initially refuses, citing the difference between human and Fae resurrection, but Tarquin steps forward and contributes a spark of life from his own essence. Kallias, Thesan, and Helion follow suit. When Beron hesitates, Mor threatens him with her sword, forcing his compliance. Feyre, as High Lady, summons her own spark of life after Thesan explains the power required. Tamlin appears, summoned by Rhysand's death, and studies the scene with cold detachment. Feyre pleads with him desperately, offering anything in exchange. Tamlin, after a long moment, tells her to "be happy" and drops the final kernel of light onto Rhysand's throat. As light surrounds them, Feyre speaks to Rhysand's body, recounting how she fell in love with him and their shared moments. His heart begins beating again, and he awakens. Rhysand reveals he pulled Amren from the Cauldron as it sealed, though she has lost her immortal powers and silver eyes in the process, becoming fully High Fae. Amren emerges from the water alive but fundamentally changed, her transformation presented as a gift freely given.
