Chapter 54
Chapter 53
Overview
Jurian reveals himself as a spy working against Hybern from within, having been resurrected and placed among the enemy to gather intelligence. He warns that Hybern plans a land assault on the Summer Court the following day, and that Tamlin has betrayed the Night Court by returning to Hybern's camp.
Summary
Jurian arrives at the human lords' gathering and immediately confronts Feyre and her court. He displays new calluses on his hands from training his resurrected body and claims he came alone. His appearance shakes Elain and Nesta, triggering difficult memories. When questioned about his presence, Jurian reveals that the continental queens sent him to seduce them to Hybern's cause, but one queen—the only noble among them—helped Feyre. For this betrayal, the others gave that queen to the Attor. Jurian explains that Hybern resurrected him believing he had gone mad during his five-hundred-year imprisonment under Amarantha, intending to use him to turn the queens to their side. Instead, Jurian has been working as a spy against Hybern from within their ranks. He confronts Mor about her immediate belief in his villainy despite their past friendship and battles fought together. Rhysand admits he didn't probe Jurian's mind because he couldn't bear to see traces of Amarantha. Jurian clarifies that his public obsession with finding Miryam and Drakon is a cover—he actually seeks their forgiveness and wants to alert them to Hybern's plans, as Drakon commands a legion that could turn the tide of battle. He reveals that Miryam and Drakon have already vanished with their people, and urges the Night Court to find them. Jurian offers to let Rhysand look into his mind to verify his claims. He then delivers the critical warning: Tamlin betrayed them this morning by running back to Hybern's camp in the Spring Court, where Hybern is preparing to launch a land assault on the Summer Court the next day.
