Chapter 21

Chapter 19

Overview

Carl's team exits the temple to make a dangerous run through the ghost-filled graveyard toward La Iglesia de los Olvidados. Using stun bombs, Bomo's armored form with missile launchers, and Asojano's barrier, they fight their way inside and secure the building. However, they discover a critical conflict: Paz and Anton receive a divine quest from their god Ogun demanding they repair a different shrine than Asojano's, forcing the group into an impossible choice.

Summary

Carl briefs Paz, Anton, Sister Ines, and Bomo on the plan to escape the ghommid-infested graveyard. Bomo wears new heavy armor with missile launchers that Carl constructed using supplies from the Desperado Club, including expensive Troll Smoke Mantles that enhance the area-of-effect of stun grenades. They exit and immediately face a terrifying gauntlet of blue-glowing ghommids that move faster at night and emit piercing shrieks. Paz becomes afflicted with the Terrified debuff, forcing Bomo to carry him while Sister Ines repeatedly casts healing spells. Carl rolls the stun bomb, clearing initial waves, while Bomo fires smoke missiles to create a path. During the run, Carl's Scavenger's Daughter ability charges from killing ghommids, allowing Donut to cast a buff that increases party dexterity—though Donut's improvised lyrics cause the buff to cancel and mute her temporarily. A dangerous rare ghommid called a Splitter with a donkey head and hidden snake body emerges, moving much faster than standard mobs. Carl flags it with a totem card (naming it T'Ghee / Skylar Spinach), and the creature impales itself on the card as Carl is pushed into the temple. Inside La Iglesia de los Olvidados, an octagonal structure with seven shrines, Asojano creates a magical glowing orb called the Sun of Reawakening—described cryptically as a flaming ruby skull—and instructs them that the Santero (Paz) must repair Asojano's shrine. However, Paz and Anton immediately receive a divine quest from their god Ogun demanding they repair a completely different shrine—the blacksmith's anvil instead—with threats of a smite if they disobey. Carl realizes this creates an impossible situation: fixing Ogun's shrine will likely anger or require fighting Asojano, potentially preventing the ghommids from being cured and causing them to swarm the building. As Anton begins to pick up pieces of Ogun's shrine, mysterious music suddenly begins playing.
