Chapter 8

Carl opens his rewards boxes from the previous floor's quests and encounters. He receives numerous items including healing potions, a divine back patch for his jacket, a tattoo kit, a shield bracer, a nipple ring, and an automaton build-it kit. After carefully affixing the divine Scavenger's Daughter patch to his jacket, he discovers it grants doubled stat benefits, dexterity and strength bonuses, and three powerful abilities: Climb, Soul Reaper, and Mysterious Bone Key. Meanwhile, Donut discovers their Faction Wars squad has been assigned a flag design by the dungeon that she finds objectionable.

Carl examines his reward boxes in the saferoom with Donut, Samantha, and Mordecai present. The celestial predator box yields a divine back patch called the Scavenger's Daughter, which depicts a pyramid of skulls with fiberoptic stitching. He also receives a peace symbol patch (+10% dexterity, reduced neutral mob aggro), an enchanted auto-buckler shield that reflects attacks, a nipple ring of the Defiler with religious detection abilities, a steampunk automaton build-it kit with dozens of parts, an enchanted prison tattoo kit, and various other items. Mordecai mentions he has hired a room attendant. Carl carefully hand-stitches the divine patch onto his jacket. Upon equipping it, a new Soul Essence bar appears in his interface. The patch's benefits include doubled stat bonuses from all patches (+25 strength, +25 dexterity), Climb (improved climbing), Soul Reaper (storing essence from melee kills to power devastating attacks), and Mysterious Bone Key (a one-time lock opener that requires sacrificing a bone). Mordecai warns Carl to drain the essence bar regularly to avoid corruption. Meanwhile, Donut discovers that the Faction Wars squads have been assigned pre-designed flags by the dungeon, and their assigned flag displeases her greatly.
