Chapter 72

Carl's team executes a coordinated assault on the FOCSA building to reach Sister Ines on the 32nd floor. After the sluggalos accidentally trigger combat, Elle casts a devastatingly powerful Graupel spell that clears most of the demons blocking their path. The team fights their way up the stairs and reaches Sister Ines's location, where Carl uses a Nighty-Night wand to incapacitate her. Louis kills the unconscious nun to prevent her from stopping their plan, but her death immediately summons the goddess Ysalte to seek revenge.

Carl briefs his team on the plan: Donut will cast Minion Army with enhancements from Imani and Samantha to turn five percent of the demon horde against each other. Before the spell finishes casting, the sluggalos unexpectedly charge the demon mass from another street, creating chaos. As demons begin pursuing the slugs toward the team's position, Elle casts Graupel—a war spell that creates a devastating hailstorm far more powerful than anticipated, leveling up six times and clearing the majority of demons in the front area. The bird and bat formations circling the building remain mostly unaffected, but Donut's spell activates among them, causing friendly fire. The team sprints through the melting ice and demon corpses to reach the FOCSA building, which turns out to be an open-air mall with a residential lobby. They ascend the stairs (avoiding an elevator due to Mongo's fear) toward the 32nd floor, where Sister Ines is located. At the top floor, Carl places a spider automaton with a teleport trap on the roof to break the demon snake boss free from its shell once Sister Ines is killed. Carl, Louis, Li Jun, and Bautista approach the nun's location while the others wait. Sister Ines charges at them screaming "Sinner!" and Carl immediately incapacitates her with the Nighty-Night wand. Louis, wanting to accumulate player skulls before others, kills the unconscious nun. Her death triggers a divine marker on Louis—a spinning tornado symbol—and the goddess Ysalte materializes to seek revenge for her bard's death.
