Chapter 48
Chapter 45
Overview
Carl, Mongo, and Donut defeat the sixth deckmaster—a Level-65 Reef Explorer with four Swordfish Interloper bodyguards—using Donut's newly created combo card, Lazarus-A-Bang-Bang, a Level-140 totem with a powerful and unpredictable bazooka. After collecting their sixth coin and examining the loot, they prepare to ascend a massive 700-foot dirt mound to face the final deckmaster guarding the key.
Summary
The group encounters the sixth deckmaster stationed at the base of a large dirt mound blocking the road and bridge to the next island. The Reef Explorer wears a ghostly deep-dive suit and commands four Level-50 Swordfish Interlopers as bodyguards. The fight tests Carl's reflexes when one swordfish knocks away his holy water bomb and launches itself at him like a missile. Donut summons Lazarus-A-Bang-Bang, her newly created combo totem (merged from Uzi Jesus and Asojano), which enters with an elaborate, over-the-top reveal sequence featuring cherubs and street dogs. The totem is Level-140 but has lower constitution (80) than its parent cards and only two utility slots instead of seven. Lazarus fires a bazooka loaded with iridescent beetles that swiftly eliminates the remaining swordfish totems and bodyguards. Raul the crab finishes off the fleeing Reef Explorer with Donut's support. After collecting the sixth coin, Donut examines the loot and criticizes the deckmaster's poorly constructed deck, noting he had thirty Precision utility cards that ruined his ability to draw other cards. Carl experiences an uneasy feeling as his soul bar nears capacity and considers whether he should disperse the Scavenger's Daughter patch power now or save it for the final boss. The group decides to return to the saferoom to reset buffs before attempting the 700-foot climb up the mound.
