Chapter 71
Chapter 67
Overview
Carl and Donut narrowly escape the collapsing building after looting Quan's massive inventory and witnessing Ren's sacrifice. As they navigate the zombie-infested city toward the church where the final key awaits, Sister Ines reveals herself to be under demonic influence and control, threatening to stop them from opening the door while wielding power over multiple demons including the massive Amayon.
Summary
After transferring Quan's extensive inventory—containing nearly five million gold coins, magical weapons, scrolls, and other rare items—Carl keeps Quan's severed arm and leaves the golden ring behind. Ren detonates the building as they escape into the burning city of Havana. Carl tosses Samantha to Donut via teleportation, though the process makes Samantha sick. The group navigates around zombie crabs, seals, and fish while avoiding detection by the communal-minded undead. Imani reports from the church that a Club Vanquisher temple sits nearby with an NPC ram casting spells. Carl receives multiple messages from Sister Ines, who claims to be filled with growing power from each demon that appears. She reveals she cannot allow them to enter the Iglesia de Jesús de Miramar where the final door is located, warning that opening it will cause catastrophe. She offers to save Carl but not Donut, calling the cat a "rank beast." Carl deduces Sister Ines has been compromised by her Nebular sponsors, a religious cult worshipping the Center system. When Carl attempts to stall her by agreeing to meet, Sister Ines demands they come to the FOSCA building. Imani then alerts Carl that three level 140 pleasure demons—supposedly minions of Sister Ines—have entered the church. The massive demon Amayon, against its apparent will, beckons Carl to approach. Sister Ines escalates her threat, promising to destroy the holy church with her demons unless Carl abandons his attempt to open the final door.
