AFTERWORD

Chapter 50

Chapter 47

Overview

Carl's party enters a massive turkey farm in Iowa where they encounter two simultaneous deckmaster opponents: a massive boss turkey and a spike-covered ogre. After defeating the Nightgaunt deckmaster (with help from Jola the giant Yule Cat), they discover thousands of living turkeys in a massive barn and must face two enemies at once for the first time.

Summary

Carl scales a cliff into Dallas County, Iowa, finding a precarious landscape of eroding farmland near the edge of a cliff above an ocean. The party encounters the Visitor, a Nightgaunt (Deckmaster Number Seven) that becomes enraged by Carl's cloak, which resembles its kind. Donut summons Jola, the Yule Cat from Icelandic folklore—a massive, house-sized Persian cat with a giant candle melted to its head. The cat fights the Nightgaunt directly while the invisible opponent ignores its own card deck entirely, focusing only on attacking Carl in blind rage. The Nightgaunt is killed without playing a single card, defeated by Jola's violent shaking. The party loots thirty cards including totems and consumable snare cards. As the ground continues to erode, they move toward a massive corrugated farm building that Donut detects contains an opponent. Inside, they find tens of thousands of living turkeys in a barn that is dangerously overheated due to malfunctioning thermostats—the first time the dungeon has taken living creatures from the past rather than memory ghosts. Mongo the dinosaur immediately begins eating turkeys upon spotting them. While Carl tries to retrieve Mongo, a single turkey that appeared to be a memory ghost suddenly activates combat. At the exact moment Mongo is knocked unconscious, all the turkeys in the barn fall silent and turn to face the party. A second deckmaster—a spike-covered ogre—awakens and begins approaching. Carl realizes he is now facing two simultaneous deckmaster opponents for the first time.
