Chapter 117
Chapter 133
Overview
Odium reflects on his torture of Dalinar through visions, designed to break the human's will. Dalinar mysteriously vanishes from the Spiritual Realm, hidden from Odium's sight—a feat requiring the intervention of a Shard. Odium discovers that Honor's fragmented power, long without a Vessel, is awakening and developing dangerous autonomy.
Summary
Odium recounts his strategy of using visions to inflict psychological pain on Dalinar, working to systematically break him down for rebuilding. The god finds satisfaction in this emotional torment until Dalinar suddenly disappears entirely from the Spiritual Realm. This surprises even Odium, who realizes that only a Shard's act could achieve such complete concealment. Investigating further, Odium discovers that the visions themselves—which have been stabilized by fragments of Honor's power in this region of the Spiritual Realm—are now hiding Dalinar. Honor's power has been operating without a Vessel for so long that it is becoming dangerous and developing its own form of consciousness, no longer merely following its Intent passively. Odium faces an unexpected dilemma: whether to destroy this awakening power of Honor before it becomes a greater threat.
