Shallan spends a reflective afternoon drawing in Lasting Integrity while awaiting the Windrunners' arrival. Twelve honorspren answer Adolin's call to become Radiants, though fewer than expected. Notum declines bonding, instead choosing to remain and help broker peace, while Kelek visits Shallan, uncertain about his role and expressing fear of the consequences of his choices. Shallan's sketches mysteriously depict Ba-Ado-Mishram, suggesting her double Nahel bond may be granting her glimpses into the Spiritual Realm. The Windrunners finally arrive to transport the group back to Urithiru.

Shallan takes a rare moment to draw in the forum of Lasting Integrity, relaxing into her art despite discovering strange faces—specifically a singer with a crownlike carapace—appearing unbidden in her sketches. Adolin and Godeke gather with their agents and wait for the Windrunners to arrive. Only twelve honorspren respond to Adolin's call to bond, disappointing his expectations. Notum approaches Shallan, and she notices his reluctance to bond a human. She reassures him that saying no to bonding is acceptable, and he decides to stay in Lasting Integrity to help recruit support rather than become a Radiant. A group of honorspren objectors departs, unwilling to fight but supportive of the humans. Kelek visits Shallan, refusing to leave because a seon under his care cannot travel safely. He expresses his fear of choices and their consequences. When Shallan sketches him, Kelek observes that her double Nahel bond may grant her the ability to glimpse and manifest possibilities from the Spiritual Realm into her art. He identifies the repeated face in her drawings as Ba-Ado-Mishram and suggests her unconscious thoughts about finding the Unmade are manifesting in her sketches. When the Windrunners arrive, Drehy greets Shallan with five Windrunners, enough to transport her and Adolin but not everyone. Adolin jokes about flying his horse home.
